Cross of Nails travels in Kunduz, Afghanistan
Cross of Nails in German Military Bases in Afghanistan
During a visit in January the Chief of Chaplains in the Military Helmut Jacobus gave a Cross of Nails to the congregation in the German Military bases in Kunduz, Afghanistan.
The Cross of Nails will be there as a symbol of peace and reconciliation and will accompany the services in the camp for the next few months.
At the presentation ceremony Helmut Jacobus said: “May this cross be a symbol of hope for this suffering and war- battered country.”
The Cross of Nails was presented to the Protestant Military Chaplaincy Germany in 1999 and travelled through different places in eastern Germany. It is now with the German soldiers in Afghanistan. In 2001 it was decided that the German Bundeswehr (Army of the Federal Republic of Germany) will be sent to Afghanistan, which is expected to last until February 2014.
